Tawni Tidwell, Ph.D., T.M.D. is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Center for Healthy Minds, University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a biocultural anthropologist and Tibetan medical physician, her work investigates the individualized biological, sociocultural and environmental contexts that support practices and qualities of mind that lead to experiences of well-being across the life course. At Emory University, she trained under developmental neuroendocrinologist Carol Worthman and assessed Tibetan medical diagnostics for cancer and metabolic disorders, framing a novel biomarker paradigm. She is also the first Westerner to formally complete the Tibetan medical education (T.M.D.) in Tibetan language, in a Tibetan institution alongside Tibetan peers.
